“Shinsekai” is one of a popular downtown located in the middle of Osaka. It literally means new world and it was developed before the war and then neglected in the decades afterwards. “Shinsekai” is famous for nostalgic atmosphere and “kushikatsu”. It is a dish, battered and deep fried foods. It has a range from chicken and beef, to pumpkin and asparagus, to the banana and ice cream dessert varieties. This is also famous for the rule of eating. You can’t dip again referring to the sauce that you dip your kushikatsu. It’s because the sauce is normally put in a big bowl and it is shared with other customer. The most important thing as a symbol of Shinsekai is “Tsutenkaku”. Tsutenkaku tower was constructed in 1912. Paris' Eiffel Tower was chosen as model of it. Besides that the southern portion of “Shinsekai” was built to imitate Coney Island in New York. There is kind of God of fortune called “Biriken-san”. It was designed by American artist. If you rub his sole, happiness may come to you. Also, There are cheap taverns and cheap eating places throng around Tsutenkaku. So, you must visit there when you come to Japan.
