Tokyo Hamarikyu Garden | Seaside Garden

Step away from the loud noises of Tokyo when visiting the only surviving seaside garden from the Edo Period (17-19th Century), Hamarikyu Garden. Initially built as the residence of a Japanese feudal lord in the 17th century, the garden was once the official duck hunting grounds for the Tokugawa Shougunate before being donated to the city of Tokyo in 1945. One of the most prominent features of the garden is the pond the garden is centered around. In the middle of the pond is a lovely tea house where guests can enjoy a relaxing cup of Matcha during the day. The pond itself is connected to Tokyo Bay, allowing the sea water to naturally flow in and out with the tide. This was done to show the constant state of change within the garden. The garden also features many kinds of plants, ranging from pine trees, flower fields, and sakura blossoms. Although Hamarikyu may not be the most popular spot for Hanami (cherry blossom viewing) or Koyo (autumn leaves viewing), the tranquil environment and abundance of trees are perfect for a more intimate experience. We highly recommend enjoying a cup of tea at the tea house while admiring the pond and garden's beauty.
