Gifu Shinhotaka Ropeway | First Double Decker

Shinhotaka Rope-way in Gifu takes you sky high, over 7,070 ft above sea level above ground to enjoy the stunning views of Takayama. As you make your way up the side of Japan's third tallest mountain Oku-Hotakedake, enjoy breathtaking views of the Okuhida Region while riding in Japan's first double-decker cabin aerial lift. Opened in 1970, the Shinhotaka Ropeway consists of two rope-ways that travel along the mountain-side. The first rope-way takes you up 188 meteres (617 ft) to Nabedaira Kogen, where guests can enjoy shopping for souvenirs, restaurants, rock garden, an art gallery, and a hiking trail. The Nabedaira Kogen is only a short walk away to the second rope-way. The second rope-way is sure to stand out, as the Shinhotaka Rope-way is the first in Japan to use a double-decker aerial lift. Shinhotaka Ropeway was the first in Japan to incorporate this double-decker feature in rope-ways. From the top, enjoy the relaxing park on the top filled with Japanese skunk-cabbages and marsh trefoil blossoming in the primeval forest. There's also the mountain view restaurant for coffee and souvenirs. Relax with a fresh cup of coffee while surrounded by breathtaking snow-capped mountains and hills. Shinhotaka Rope-way also has the Hotel Hotaka built next to the rope-way for guests who want to spend time in Gifu after their Japan Tour ends. You can also customize your own Takayama Festival Japan tour itinerary with our Private Tour options to create a scenic vacation through Japan's alps during the lively Takayama Festival!
