Huis Ten Bosch is a Dutch town-themed theme park in Sasebo, Nagasaki. The theme-park takes its name from Huis ten Bosch in The Hague, one of the three official residences of the Dutch Royal Family in Nagasaki. The name roughly translates to House at the Woods, and the location is meant to symbolize the historical relationship between Japan and the Netherlands as early trade partners. Huis Ten Bosch features everything from amusement rides, shops, cafes, hotels, and restaurants to windmills, canals, villas, and museums. The buildings are life-sized replicas of old Dutch buildings found in the Netherlands. The spacious gardens filled with beautiful flowers blooming in front of windmills creates an amazing European atmosphere. Visitors can even take a boat ride through the canals as they pass by European style architecture buildings.

Huis Ten Bosch is divided into two areas, the Theme Park Zone and the Free Zone. The attractions and rides can be found in the Theme Park Zone which requires an admission fee. You can purchase an all day passport which allows access to the Ferris wheels, 3D theaters, haunted house, and many more activities. There is also a Michael Jackson Museum located in the Theme Park Zone as a fun tribute to the King of Pop. The Free Zone's highlights include a ride on the recreated pirate ship from the hit anime/manga series One Piece and the replica of the Palace Huis Ten Bosch. In addition to the One Piece themed boat ride, the theme park was also the setting for the 2004 hit anime The Marshmallow Times. The Huis Ten Bosch themed-park is a great way to experience a bit of the European history in Japan.
