The Nibutani Ainu Culture Museum opened it's doors in Biratori, Hokkaido in 1992 to preserve and promote the history of the Ainu people. The Ainu were the indigenous people who lived in Hokkaido long before settlers came to the island. This immersive museum features various exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays to teach guests about the lives the Ainu lived. There is also a collection of 919 items related to the daily life of the Ainu on display at the museum that was designated as an Important Tangible Folk Cultural Property (another 202 are at the Kayano Shigeru Nibutani Ainu Museum nearby). The museum includes toys, clothing, hunting materials, literature, and videos of Ainu legends, folk dances, and more.
