When visiting the Forest of Wisdom, guests will be accompanied by a guide who will explain which areas can be entered to fully enjoy the green moss gardens, shrines, and cedar trees. While the moss is beautiful to enjoy, proper maintenance is required for the moss to thrive. The seven families remaining in Hikyou Village attend to the moss, cleaning the gardens and preventing people or wild animals from stepping on the moss. Their work is not in vain, as the Forest of Wisdom is ranked on the “100 Farm Village Sceneries of Japan”. There is a fee to enter, which is used to help sustain the moss village for future generations. Explore the wisdom and beauty to be found at the Moss Village during one of our exciting Spring Takayama Festival Japan Tours or on a private Japan tour package through Kanazawa and Takayama!
