Narai Juku port town is a traditional preserved district in the Nagano Prefecture. Along with Magome and Tsumago, Narai Juku is one of the port town stops along Kisoji. Marked as the thirty-fourth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō and the second of eleven stops in Kisoji, this traditional port-town thrived during the days of Edo as a passing point for travelers. Recognized as a Cultural Property of Japan in 1978, this district maintains the same facade as it kept during the Edo Period thanks to preservation efforts by the Japanese government. Similar to the streets of old Kyoto, the paths along Narai Juku are filled with the history and atmosphere of traditional Japan.
