The Teddy Bear Museum in Izu, Shizuoka is an adorable museum exhibiting a great collection of teddy bears from around the world. Opened in 1995, the museum has an Old English
feel and takes you back in time to learn about the history and culture of teddy bears. Among the collection, the famous Teddy Girl, a 1904 teddy bear auctioned for 18 million yen, resides at the Izu Teddy Bear Museum among other great and famous teddy bears.
In order to keep guests entertained, the teddy bear museum features the works of Studio Ghibli into the museum as well as famous teddy bears. One of the museum highlights is the full-sized Cat Bus from My Neighbor Totoro. Unlike the Ghibli Museum that can only accommodate small children on the cat bus, even adult tourists can hop on and take pictures of this iconic bus.
As with all museums, the Teddy Bear Museum gift shop is filled with great mementos of your trip to the museum. The shop is filled with various teddy bear and teddy bear goods, such as stationery, bags, household goods, and much more. There's also the Teddy's Room, a relaxing tea garden to rest after exploring the extensive museum exhibits. The cafe offers various kinds of cakes, desserts, teas, and more. The cafe even offers special teddy bear latte art. There's also the Nasu Teddy Bear Museum in the Tochigi Prefecture operated by the same group.
