Wakayama Kumano Kodo | Spiritual Pilgrimage Route

Kumano Kodo is a group of pilgrimage routes that lead to the sacred Kumano Sanzan. Kumano Sanzan refers to the three Kumano shrines Hongu Taisha, Hayatama Taisha, and Nachi Taisha. The spiritual walk through Kumado Kodo pilgrimage route meant more than just reaching the Kumano Sanzan. Getting through the tough path was meant to be a religious experience. It was hoped that the individual would end up with their souls purified after the extensive pilgrimage.
