Matsuyama Castle in Ehime was constructed between 1602 and 1628 is one of Japan's twelve original castles. An original castle refers to castles that survived the post-feudal era since 1868. Matsuyama Castle meets this criteria in that the castle's tower was last reconstructed in 1820 when it was burnt down being struck by lightening. The original castle was five stories but today's stands three stories tall. The castle's interior have been modified to educate visitors about the history of Matsuyama Castle though exhibits.
