Hakone Gora Park opened in 1914 as Japan's first French-style garden and park on the steep slopes above Gora Station, Hakone. The park features a large fountain, rose garden, restaurant, and tea-house. The rose garden is a must see, housing 140 species of roses on 1,000 bushes. The park also features two greenhouses, one with a tropical botanical garden while the other contains a flower garden. Browse through a unique collection of Japan's tropical plants, spanning a total of 70 different species. The park also offers a wide range of workshops and other fun activities in the Craft-house. Guests can take classes ranging from glass blowing, pottery making, Ikebana, dried flower arranging, and more. The fees range from 1,000 to 5,000 yen and take half an hour to an hour to complete. Once you finish, be sure to visit the Hakuun-do Chaen tea-house overlooking the main fountain for a relaxing cup of tea. We highly recommend visiting during the Spring when the bright pink and white shades of cherry blossoms begin to bloom. You can enjoy Hakone Gora Park as a stop along the way on our custom Japan tour vacation package!
