Omelette Over Fried Rice with Ketchup

Omurice is a Japanese dish with Western influences, consisting of an omelette over fried rice and topped with ketchup. Omurice is a popular dish among children, and is often a popular choice for children at western-style or family restaurants in Japan. Depending on one's preference, the omelette can cooked into a thin layer of egg or into a thicker layer with the egg a little runny as you cut into it. The fried rice is usually ketchup flavored and contains chicken and mixed vegetables like carrots, green peas, and onions.

Most omurice is topped with ketchup but can also be substituted for other types of sauce. Recently, demi glace sauce and white cream sauce have become popular alternatives. As a popular childhood dish, many children look forward to the designs their mother's draw on the omurice with ketchup, or to drawing their own designs.
