400 Years History of Sado Gold Mine

It is said that Sado Gold Mine was opened by three miners of in 1601. It developed and flourished as the greatest gold silver mine in Japan. Due to resource exhaustion, the operation was suspended in 1989. However, for about 400 years, it had contributed to the Japanese industry, most notably for the modernization of the industry in 1889. After 1989, the mine closed and is now kept as a historical site. You can tour the mining facilities and see where and when they dug at that time. There is also an exhibition materials center.
