Senbei are a type of Japanese rice crackers. They come in various shapes, sizes, and flavors, usually savory but sometimes sweet. Senbei are usually cooked by being baked or grilled, traditionally over charcoal. While being prepared they may be brushed with a flavoring sauce, often one made of soy sauce and mirin. Alternatively they may be flavored with salt, sesame or Shichimi (a mixture of red pepper and other spices).
At the workshop facility, put a rice cracker in a metal chopstick and put it in an electric furnace to bake it. The distance between the rice cracker and the electric heater is very important. Also you will learn how to turn the rice cracker, and the best time to pull out.
Enjoy your "only senbei" in the world.
This Senbei (Rice cracker) workshop is featured destinations on our new Deep Japan Tours and Deep Japan & Hiroshima Tours.
