Lightly Battered & Fried Japanese Food | Tempura

Tempura is a popular, lightly battered, deep fried seafood and vegetables dish popular in Japan. The batter usually consists of water, flour and egg which is mixed to a nice consistency to ensure the crispy, light texture of the tempura. The most popular tempura is the shrimp tempura, or ebi tempura. Other popular ingredients include pumpkin, eggplant, fish, etc. Kakiage is also a popular choice. It is a variety of vegetables and seafood like carrots, scallops, onion mixed and fried together. These tempura is either served as a main dish by itself or on top of rice or noodles in forms of ten don, tempura udon or tempura soba. Tempura is enjoyed all around Japan, so its best to order a few things you know and try out whatever the chef recommends. Tempura made with local ingredients is a great way to sample the prefecture's local specialties while enjoying a popular dish.
