Day 2 Himeji & Hiroshima | UNESCO Certified White Heron Castle

Today, your journey blends flavor, history, and culture as we travel westward. We begin with an immersive Japanese sake tasting, where you’ll learn about the craftsmanship behind Japan’s national drink. Guided by an expert, sample a variety of premium sakes, each with its own aroma, body, and character, while discovering the traditions that have shaped this centuries-old brewing art.

Our cultural exploration continues with a visit to the magnificent Himeji Castle, often called the White Heron Castle for its graceful, whitewashed exterior. Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Japan’s most treasured landmarks, this fortress dates back to the early 1600s and stands as the finest surviving example of feudal-era architecture. Strolling its courtyards and climbing its towers reveals ingenious defensive designs, preserved wooden interiors, and panoramic views that transport you to the age of the samurai.

As evening approaches, we arrive in Hiroshima for a hands-on culinary experience with Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki. This hearty, layered savory pancake—packed with cabbage, noodles, and your choice of toppings—is prepared right before you on a sizzling teppan grill. Rich in both flavor and local pride, it’s a beloved comfort food that reflects the warmth and resilience of the region.

We conclude the day in Hiroshima, where you’ll check into your hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. Today’s experiences combine artisanal tradition, architectural heritage, and regional cuisine, offering a deeper connection to Japan’s cultural heart.

Day 3 Hiroshima & Fukuoka | the Iconic Floating Shrine of Japan

Our day begins in Hiroshima, a city that stands as a symbol of resilience and peace. We start at the solemn Atomic Bomb Dome, preserved as a stark reminder of the events of August 6, 1945. As you walk around this UNESCO World Heritage Site, take in its powerful presence and reflect on the city’s journey from devastation to hope.

Just a short walk away, we enter the tranquil grounds of the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. Here, monuments, memorials, and landscaped paths invite moments of quiet reflection. We will also visit the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, where thoughtfully curated exhibits tell the human stories behind the history, offering a moving and educational experience that deepens our understanding of the importance of peace.

In the afternoon, we travel by ferry to Miyajima Island, one of Japan’s most celebrated scenic spots. Stroll along its charming streets, admire the traditional architecture, and take in views of the shimmering Seto Inland Sea. The highlight is the Itsukushima Shrine with its world-famous “floating” torii gate — a breathtaking sight that seems to rise from the water at high tide.

As evening falls, we make our way to Fukuoka for a flavorful conclusion to the day. In the vibrant Nakasu district, rows of bustling yatai food stalls await. Tonight, you’re free to follow your nose (and appetite) to savor a steaming bowl of Hakata ramen or other local favorites. Day 4 Kumamoto | Where Edo-Era Charm Meets Volcanic Majesty and Taiko Drums

Our journey begins in the charming streets of Hita Mamedamachi, a beautifully preserved Edo-period merchant town in Oita Prefecture. Strolling through its narrow lanes lined with white-walled storehouses, sake breweries, and traditional townhouses, you’ll feel transported back in time. With its nostalgic atmosphere and historical architecture, Mamedamachi offers a perfect blend of cultural immersion and scenic charm—beloved by photographers, history enthusiasts, and anime fans alike.

Next, we experience the pulse of traditional Japan with a live taiko drumming performance by an internationally acclaimed Japanese taiko troupe. Set against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Aso, this open-air show is a breathtaking fusion of music, power, and nature. The echo of the drums across the Aso plateau leaves a lasting impression and showcases the soul-stirring energy of Japan’s ancient performance arts.

From there, we make our way to Daikanbo, one of the most iconic viewpoints in the Aso region. Located high on the northern rim of Mount Aso’s caldera, Daikanbo offers sweeping panoramic views of the five Aso peaks and the vast valley below. The landscape resembles a giant sleeping Buddha, and on clear days, the sky and earth blend into a seamless horizon—perfect for scenic photography and quiet admiration.

Day 5 Takachiho | the Myths come alive at Takachiho Gorge

Our journey begins with a scenic ride aboard the Aso Scenic Trolley Train, winding through the picturesque fields and volcanic landscapes of Kumamoto. This slow-paced ride offers stunning views of Mount Aso, making it a relaxing start to your Kyushu adventure.

Next, we visit the crystal-clear Shirakawa Spring, one of Japan’s most pristine natural water sources. Nestled in a tranquil forest, this spot is perfect for enjoying fresh mountain spring water and the peaceful atmosphere of rural Japan.

Our path leads to the breathtaking Takachiho Gorge, where steep basalt cliffs frame the emerald Gokase River. For a memorable experience, glide under the majestic Manai Falls in a rental boat and take in the natural beauty of this hidden gem.

We finish the day at the sacred Amano Iwato Shrine and Amano Yasugawara Cave, linked to the sun goddess Amaterasu. Walk along a quiet riverside trail to reach the stone-filled cave, a deeply spiritual place believed to be where gods once gathered in Japanese mythology.

Day 6 Beppu & Dogo | Monkeys, Hell Springs, and Japan’s Oldest Onsen

We venture into one of Beppu’s most iconic attractions—the Beppu Hell Tour (Jigoku Meguri). We explore three of the area’s most famous “hells”: Umi Jigoku, known for its vivid cobalt-blue waters; Chinoike Jigoku, the oldest of the hot springs with its surreal blood-red pool; and Oniishibozu Jigoku, where gray mud bubbles ominously from the earth. Each spot offers a striking display of geothermal energy and showcases the raw beauty of Japan’s volcanic landscape.

After taking in the dramatic sights, we enjoy a uniquely local culinary experience with a Jigoku Mushi lunch. Using the natural geothermal steam of Beppu, this traditional method of cooking locks in flavor and nutrients, resulting in a delicious and healthy meal. From fresh vegetables to savory dumplings and eggs, this lunch is both interactive and satisfying.

In the afternoon, we board a scenic ferry for a relaxing cruise across the Seto Inland Sea to Matsuyama, offering views of the surrounding islands and coastline. The ferry ride is a tranquil interlude as we journey from Kyushu to Shikoku.

Our day concludes with a visit to the historic Dogo Onsen, Japan’s oldest hot spring bathhouse. With over 1,000 years of history and architecture that inspired Studio Ghibli’s “Spirited Away,” this revered bathhouse invites us to unwind in soothing thermal waters. Day 7 Ehime & Kagawa | Panoramic Sea Views and Traditional Udon Experience

Our day begins with a breathtaking visit to Kirosan Observatory Park, one of the most scenic viewpoints along the Shimanami Kaido. Perched 307 meters above sea level, the observatory—designed by renowned architect Kengo Kuma—offers sweeping panoramic views of the Seto Inland Sea and the dramatic curves of the Kurushima-Kaikyō Bridge. This serene mountaintop retreat is an ideal photo stop and a peaceful moment to reflect amid Japan’s island-dotted seascape.

Next, we dive into Japan’s culinary culture with a hands-on udon noodle-making experience. Guided by local experts, you’ll knead, roll, and cut Sanuki-style udon from scratch, then enjoy the fruits of your labor in a delicious, freshly prepared meal. This interactive workshop is not only fun but also a delicious way to connect with Japan’s regional food traditions.

Our journey continues to Ritsurin Garden, one of Japan’s most celebrated historic gardens. Originally built in the early Edo period, this beautifully landscaped park features meticulously maintained pine trees, koi-filled ponds, and picturesque walking paths. With Mt. Day 8 Tokushima & Osaka | Indigo Towns, Spirited Dance, and a Taste of Tradition

We begin our day with a peaceful stroll through the historic Udatsu Townscape in Mima City, where rows of Edo-period merchant houses line a beautifully preserved street. Featuring the distinctive "udatsu" firewalls—a symbol of wealth and craftsmanship—the district offers a glimpse into Tokushima’s rich cultural heritage. With traditional plaster walls, tiled roofs, and nostalgic charm, this area feels like stepping back in time and is a perfect place for photography and quiet exploration.

Next, we immerse ourselves in Tokushima’s renowned textile legacy with a hands-on indigo dyeing experience. Guided by skilled local artisans, you'll learn the process of creating vivid "Awa indigo"—a deep blue dye that made this region famous. You’ll craft your own piece to take home, creating a personal connection to this centuries-old Japanese art form.

From textiles to rhythm, our journey continues with a vibrant visit to the Awa Odori Kaikan, home to Tokushima’s most famous traditional dance. After learning about the centuries-old origins of Awa Odori through museum exhibits and live performances, you'll get the chance to join the dancers yourself. The beat of the shamisen and taiko drums, along with spirited choreography, brings joy and energy that’s hard to resist.

Our day concludes in Osaka, where you’ll have free time to relax or explore Japan’s kitchen on your own. Whether it’s shopping in Dotonbori, tasting famous takoyaki, or simply unwinding at your hotel, Osaka offers a perfect mix of excitement and comfort to wrap up the day.
