When you travel Japan, you would see many Jizo-statue along the road, in temples, anywhere in Japan. The size is different and sometimes faces are also different. With peaceful faces, they has been standing and watching over everyone with love and care. It is said that they were built to get rid of peoples’ pains and make their wish come true. They are keeping their works for 5,000 million years until Buddha appears this world again, it means they works instead of Buddha.

Jizo-statues have various power based on its condition, for example, protecting pregnant having an easy delivery, getting pains of people who got in disasters, and protecting village’s safe. By these aspects, people started praying for a long life, health, huge harvest, and victory of the war. You also might see some of them are wearing red caps and bibs. Due to its power to protect child, people give them to Jizo praying their child’s health. Red color has the meanings of being right and being honest, so people giving red items as a means to protect children.
