Makino Botanical Garden

The Makino Botanical Garden was established in 1958 with a museum dedicated to Tomitaro Makino, the Father of Japanese Botany as well as a research facility. Located next to Chikurin-Ji temple on Mt. Godai, the botanical garden is open to the public daily, except on Mondays. The museum includes many of the plants indigenous to the Kochi Prefecture, as well as various plants found commonly in Japan. There is both an indoor and outdoor section, each filled with fauna and information on the plants. The museum inside is dedicated to the works of Tomitaro Makino, with information about his work and relationship with the garden. Also known as the Kochi Prefectural Makino Botanical Garden, there is a cafe and gift shop in addition to the unique displays and exhibits.
