Located in central Koka, south of Kyoto, the Miho Museum is a beautiful museum designed by world-renowned architect I. M. Pei and is well-known for its architecture's seamless integration with the natural surroundings. Named after founder Koyama Mihoko, one of the richest women in Japan, the museum showcases a unique collection of exhibits from ancient civilizations, including works from the Egyptians and Romans, to pieces from Koyama's private art collection. This results in a massive collection, consisting of over two thousand works of fine artifacts and exhibits. The main exhibits are rotated on a yearly basis, while special exhibits are updated every few months.

A Hidden Paradise

A Hidden Paradise

The grounds of the Miho Museum are part of a national park, and about 80% of the museum blends into the natural surroundings of the hillside. There's only one road to enter the museum, which is reached after passing through a tunnel. From there, guests cross a suspension bridge to reach the museum entrance. The pathway is designed to captivate tourists and provide a sense of serenity and wonder. Inspired by the old Chinese tale Peach Blossom Spring, passing through the tunnel is meant to invoke a feeling of serenity and wonder, as if stumbling into a hidden paradise.

With the Miho Museum's scenic location and cutting edge design, the museum attracts fans of architecture, fashion, and design work in addition to critiques and fans alike. The beauty of the museum was enough to earn world-recognition as the home of the 2018 Louis Vuitton Fashion Show.
