The Northern Culture Museum, or Hoppo Bunka Hakubutsukan, is a museum housed in the property of the wealthy Ito Family from the 1800's. Housing a collection of 6,000 antiques from Japan, China, and Korea, this museum showcases beautiful works with a scenic Japanese garden and traditional Japanese-style buildings. The museum's impressive Shukokan exhibition hall displays paintings, sculptures, calligraphy, and ceramics collected by the Ito family. The Ito family decided it would be better to donate their property for future generations to enjoy art than to keep the land themselves.

The museum is also well-renowned for its Japanese gardens. Professional gardeners work to maintain the lands and are said to have links to Kyoto's Ginkakuji Temple. The gardens are said to be absolutely stunning any time of year, whether its a pristine white blanket of snow in the Winter or fragile cherry blossoms in the spring, the gardens are a must at the Northern Culture Museum.
