Teramachi-Kyogoku is a shopping street in Kyoto filled with anime, manga, and souvenir shopping. Everyone knows Akihabara is the otaku-capital, but that doesn't mean you want to skip Kyoto's anime and manga spots. Kyoto's Kuya Shoten Manga-kan is the largest bookstore for anime and manga in Kyoto. There's also Kyoto Amanone that offers unique anime merchandise that blends traditional Kyoto aesthetic and modern anime art. Once you finish at Amanone, find exclusive anime figures at the Rashinban Kyoto Branch, or visit the popular store Gamers for some anime goods (there's also one in Akihabara). In addition to anime shopping, the street is said to be the backdrop to 2018's hit anime Holmes of Kyoto.
In addition to anime goods, Teramachi is home to over 160 shops lined up with souvenirs, traditional goods, incenses, and more. Teramachi literally translates to temple-street, so it's not uncommon to find religious goods at a few of the shops. The famous Nishiki Market, also known as Kyoto's Kitchen
, is also a short walk away from Teramachi-Kyogoku.
