When it comes to sashimi and sushi, some people equivocate the two. However, sashimi is the thinly sliced raw fish and sushi is sashimi served with the vinegared rice. Sashimi is often served as appetizers and first course meals at restaurants, especially when serving kaiseki-style meals. Sashimi is sometimes presented beautifully, forming flower petals with the delicate slices and garnished with daikon radish. When eating Sashimi, most Japanese will dip their piece in soy sauce and sometimes add a little dab of wasabi.
Some of the best places to enjoy fresh sashimi are at fish markets, such as Tsukiji and Toyosu in Tokyo or Nijo Fish Market in Sapporo. Many restaurants also serve sashimi dishes in Japan, whether it's an izakaya or traditional Japanese restaurant to specialized fish and sushi restaurants.
Craving Sashimi? The tour guides at Japan Deluxe Tours are more than happy to recommend great sashimi restaurants during your vacation in Tokyo or Kyoto. You can also customize your trip to include a night at a sushi & sashimi restaurant in Tokyo during your tour's free day!
