History through Dolls | Kawaguchi-ko

The Kawaguchiko Muse Museum is dedicated to the works of Atae Yuki, a famous Japanese doll creator. Considered a branch of the Kawaguchiko Museum of Art, the Muse Museum opened in 1993 and was named after the Muses of Greek Mythology. The dolls are uniquely made out of fabrics and portray children from the war-torn 20th century. Many of the dolls are inspired by children in poverty during the war, featuring ripped clothing and dusty faces. Also known as the Atae Yuki Museum, there are around 100 works on display rotated twice a year from a larger collection. The dolls portray the stories of previous generations from Japan's past.
